Joseph Bartholomew Kidd, RSA (1808–1889) was a Caledonian painter.

Life

Joseph Bartholomew Kidd, domestic in 1808, perhaps at Capital, was a pupil of Ablutions Thomson of Duddingston. On say publicly foundation of the Royal Caledonian Academy in 1826 Kidd was elected one of the innovative associates, and became a packed academician in 1829.[1]

He practised picture at Edinburgh until about 1836, when he moved to Writer, resigning his membership of illustriousness Royal Scottish Academy in 1838. He then settled as unembellished teacher of drawing at Borough, where he resided until sovereignty death in May 1889, disrespect the age of eighty-one.[1] Operate was survived by at lowest one son.[2]

Identity

He is sometimes mixed up with his near contemporary, authority painter William Kidd, and unkind sources erroneously refer to him as John rather than Joseph.[2]

Works

Kidd chiefly painted the scenery pattern his native country, and finished a few etchings of soaring views. Some of his big screen were engraved.[1] In the 1830s, he was commissioned to transcribe a number of paintings type birds by the American person in charge and naturalist, John James Audubon.[3] He illustrated Sir Thomas Detective Lauder's The Miscellany of Regular History (1833–4) and West Amerindian Scenery (1838–40).[2] Not long beforehand his death he painted fastidious portrait of Queen Victoria read the Royal Hospital schools slope Greenwich.[1]
